The Madrona is a type of tree that is typically found growing near the Puget Sound and Pacific Ocean. Also known as the “Pacific Madrone”, the tree’s common name is the “madrona” in Washington and most of Oregon, also lending it’s names to the Madrona Neighborhood of Seattle, as well as countless parks, beaches, streets and buildings across the northwest. The tree’s distinctive orange-red bark stands out in stark contrast from the other trees in the area, and when its papery outer layer of bark peels back in the autumn, it reveals a strikingly bright green layer underneath. This ink attempts to capture the vibrant orange-brown of the bark and, with its green sheen, the green of the freshly exposed bark.
Depending on the paper that you use, the color of the ink will range from brown to orange to red (especially on Japanese papers like Cosmo Air Snow and Tomoe River), but you should get green sheen on any paper that supports sheen.

I received a sample of this ink in an ink swap. I need a full bottle now, I hope they’re in stock soon. I used to live in Washington, I loved the madrona trees. This ink is gorgeous, a perfect example of the peeling bark of a madrona. It’s a lovely red-orange with a green sheen. I love how it looks in a fine nib pen, just the perfect amount of color and sheen in the writing. It’s well behaved and stunning on Tomoe River paper. I’m hoping to try their other inks as well, as soon as they’re back in stock.

There’s a madrona tree just down the hill from our house. I’ve always been amazed by the bark on it. This ink faithfully mirrors the red/brown/green of that bark. I’m quite impressed. I especially like it on iroful, where there is so much sheen that the letters are either red or a brilliant green depending on the angle of the light. As with all The Wet Pen inks that I’ve tried the ink flows well and is a joy to use.

Absolutely incredible ink. The base color is a very pleasing orange/red, but it’s the consistent halo of green sheen around almost every letter on Midori cotton paper that takes it to an elevated level. As with all Wet Pen inks, this one has superb flow and is a pleasure to write with. I have so many inks these days that it’s genuinely hard to wow me anymore. This one does it.
